Bon Appe Keto Jicama French Fries
Despite its name, the French fry is not French. The origins of the French fry have been traced back to Belgium, where potatoes were being fried as far back as the 15th century. American soldiers stationed in Belgium were first introduced to fries during World War I. As the official language of the Belgian army was French, soldiers nicknamed the delicious fried potatoes “French fries.” The name stuck, and we have been giving credit to the wrong country ever since. This classic finger food goes my many names: Chips in the UK, Finger Ships in India and Fries in America.
And just when you thought it wasn’t possible, here it is: Keto friendly fries!! So delicious and easily pared with hundreds of meals, these crispy fries will become a staple! Dip them in Bon Appe Keto Ketchup for the ultimate french fry experience.

|
- 1 Large Jicama - peeled
- 3/4 cup Avocado Oil , Lard or Light Olive Oil
- 1/2 Yellow Onion
- 1/2 tsp Himalayan Pink Salt
- 1/4 tsp Ground Pepper
Ingredients
|
- Peel off skin of Jicama with vegetable peeler.
- Cut Jicama into ¼” slices, then cut each slice into ¼” pieces, so they look like shoe-string fries.
- Slice Onion.
- Heat Oil or Lard in frying pan on High heat.
- Add Jicama, Onion, Salt and Pepper into frying pan, so that it forms a single layer. Depending on how large your Jicama is, you may have to fry in two batches.
- Let fry for about 10 minutes then turn.
- Cook for about 10 more minutes until Jicama turns brown. Be careful, this happens very quickly – the fries go from white to brown in an instant at about the 20 minute mark, and not all at once.
- Remove browned Jicama as they are ready with tongs onto plate.
- Bon AppeKETO!
